Common Clay (1930 film)

Common Clay is a 1930 film directed by Victor Fleming and starring Constance Bennett and Lew Ayres, based on the play of the same name by Cleves Kinkead which starred Jane Cowl. The film was about a young servant who is seduced by the master of the house but he wont have anything to do with her other than sex because of her low status. She ultimately falls pregnant with his child which he doesnt want and when she tries to gain recognition for the baby, his family treats her as if she was a common blackmailer.

A previous version of the play had been filmed before in the silent era in 1919 by director George Fitzmaurice and starring Fannie Ward. It is now lost.
